"We learn by chess the habit of not being discouraged by present bad appearances in the state of our affairs, the habit of hoping for a favourable change, and that of persevering in search of resources." --Benjamin Franklin

I enjoy chess and believe it to be a useful tool for expanding the intlellect and keeping the brain active and healthy.

You can learn the basics of chess in a single session and hone your skills over a lifetime. chess is played all around the world, and each country has its own variations in style and technique. There are also hundreds of variant rulesets.

Here's the pattern I use for teaching chess:

  1. Starting Out

    • The Ten Moves
    • Queening
    • Zones of control, or protection
    • Check and checkmate

    • Forking
    • Sacrifices
    • Gambits
    • Variant games
  2. The Study of Chess

    • Aiming for endgame
    • Notation
    • Guided practice
    • Game analysis
    • Practice sessions...

Learn-together Program

Sometimes, a companion along the path of learning is sufficient. If you need help with something I haven't listed, please ask about it. I have more knowledge than I've listed, and even if it's not something I know well, my life experience and strengths in other areas make me well suited to offer insights and guidance for a broad range of topics. I even offer a special program for this. I'll guide you through the learning process with my knowledge and experience at a discounted rate.
